Essay: Why Nerds are Unpopular by Paul Graham (2003)

Each spring,  MSMS eighth graders look forward to student council elections (sort of).  Candidates busy themselves by canvassing classrooms and corridors asking for votes; speeches are given and votes are tallied.  BEAM students often weigh in on the issue of popularity as it affects the election of officers.  Do 8th graders cast votes for the best candidate or the most popular?  Can the best candidate be socially unpopular?  Are some popular kids poor choices for leadership?

After reading Paul Graham's essay (see link above), BEAM students were asked to respond to the author's assertions.
